The Florida Gators, Texas
Longhorns and Alabama Crimson Tide held firm to their spots
in the AP Top 25 rankings this week and a BCS national
championship showdown appears to be in the cards for two of
those schools.
Florida took care of
Vanderbilt 27-3 on Saturday and while the offense once again
fell short of impressing the Gators did enough to keep their
#1 ranking in the AP Top 25. The same could be said for the
Texas Longhorns who weren’t exactly sharp in the opening
frame against UCF but they put it together and their 35-3
victory keeps them at #2 this week.
The Alabama Crimson Tide came
off their bye-week and took out the LSU Tigers to clinch the
SEC West and set up a showdown with the Florida Gators in
the SEC championship. The Tide remain at #3 this week but a
victory over Florida in the SEC championship would almost
certainly guarantee them a spot in the BCS title game.
It was a great week for TCU as
the Horned Frogs jumped two spots to land at #4 this week
after blasting San Diego State. TCU benefited from an Iowa
loss and a less than impressive effort from Cincinnati to
put themselves in line for a solid BCS bowl and an outside
shot at a BCS national championship.
The Cincinnati Bearcats held
on to their #5 spot this week and they may be grateful for
that as they survived a wild game against Connecticut.
Boise State can’t seem to win
even when they win as the Broncos once again dropped a spot
to #6 despite a win over Louisiana Tech on Friday. The
Broncos are followed closely by the Georgia Tech Yellow
Jackets who jumped three spots to #7 following losses by
Iowa, Oregon and LSU. Pittsburgh also found it to be a
fruitful weekend as the Panthers moved up six spots to #8
after beating Syracuse.
